Makeup is one of my all time favorite things to talk about! I love discovering new products, brands, and of course trying out all sorts of different looks. Ever since I was able to start wearing makeup in middle school, I have been hooked on buying all of the new palettes that come out in stores. However, some don’t live up to the expectations I had for them which kind of stunk because palettes can be quite expensive. So to help you out I have gathered up my top five favorite makeup palettes that I always gear towards when I’m getting ready.

Note: There are also going to be some tips when buying makeup palettes that I’m going to  share with you too 🙂

1. Urban Decay NAKED 2 Palette

The Urban Decay NAKED 2 Palette is by far my favorite palette I have ever purchased. You have neutrals, sparkles, and smoky shades all in one place.  The shades are beautiful and are very well pigmented so you don’t need much to get the look you want.

My favorite shades in this palette are virgin, sin, naked, and toasted. They are all pretty neutral tones but you can build them up to make a more dramatic look as well if you wanted to. Overall, a very high quality product and I would definitely invest the money to buy the palette because it will last you for so long and it is a great starter palette if you are just getting into makeup.

2. Laura Geller New York 31 Days of Holiday

I cannot recommend this palette enough to you if you are looking  for an all in one palette. Going for a natural look? Use this palette. Girls night out? Use this palette. Just want to play around with some fancy colors? USE THIS PALETTE! Now the only reason why I didn’t put this at the top of my list is because I don’t really consider it a beginners palette. The Urban Decay Naked Palette has some colors that are a bit more intense but by and large it is a great palette for someone just starting out in makeup. But this palette is those of you who want an all in one product.

First off, the setup of the colors in this palette is amazing. Around the outer ring you have your lighter shades for more natural looks and as you make your way into the middle the colors get more intense. Some of my favorite natural shades that I use on a daily basis would have to be taupe, lychee rose, creme, and frosting. I also love using mahogany and licorice as a liner for my eyes as well. This product also has some very fun and vibrant colors including blue raspberry, berry tart, sunrise, and amethyst. I highly recommend this palette for someone who is wanting to explore a little more with their looks but also have a palette to where they can go back to natural at any time  too.

SECRET TIP: I actually found this palette at Nordstrom rack for HALF the price! If you have a store near you go to it and look at the makeup section, most of the time they have name brand products for half the cost! ($60 vs. $29.97)

3. Maybelline- The Blush Nudes

If you like more pinky and in my opinion, valentine’s day colors I believe this is a great palette for you. Again, these are natural tones but they give off a more rosy vibe than some of the other one’s I have mentioned before. Depending on where you buy it’s around $7-$10 for 12 different colors. I believe this palette only has about two or three matte shades so if you don’t really like sparkle/shimmer then this product may not be for you. But I love wearing these shades all throughout the year but most definitely during the month of February. The sparkles give your eyes a little extra pop and the colors look amazing paired with a red or pink outfit too. Overall this is a great, inexpensive palette for someone who loves those blushy tones!

4. Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette

I am a die hard urban decay lover and this palette lives up to expectations. There are 12 shades including matte, sparkle, and smoky shades. You have some browns, purples, silvers, and some nice base shades as well. Now even though I don’t necessarily reach for this palette everyday, I think it is worth the money to buy. The shades are very pigmented so you don’t need to use a ton of product to get the look. I think it’s also a fun palette to play around with as well, some of the shades I thought I would never touch but they ended up being my favorite once I actually tried them out.

Favorite Colors: High, Radar, Slanted, Combust, and Thirteen

This palette also comes with a brush and I love using it to blend in different shades. You don’t need to go hard using this brush and since the bristles are tightly packed together it’s easier to get the eyeshadow in a specific area of your eye.

5. L.A. Girl NUDES Palette

My last palette I am going to share with you today is the L.A. Girl NUDES Palette. This palette is very inexpensive and I highly recommend it to anyone who is a lover of all things sparkly. They are nude colors but do have a ton of shimmer in them to really bring out anyone’s eyes. There are a few matte shades (mostly base shadows) but the rest have a good amount of shimmer in them. Now I will say you do have to apply more product on to get the color payoff but the colors are beautiful when applied. I love this palette when I am in a rush but still want to look fancy, I just use this palette and immediately I look like I just spent 30 minutes on my eyes when I fact I probably spent about five minutes on them.

Overall great palette at an extremely great price

Okay so those are all of my top five palettes I recommend you buy! Of course you do not have to get all of these to be good at makeup, I have accumulated these palettes over a 5 year time period so definitely do not think you have to buy them all at once. I tried to give as much details as possible about the palettes themselves so you  could really get a feel for how they are and maybe decide to buy one based on your preferences.
