How To Become A Morning Person

I'm just going to cut to the chase, becoming a morning person is very hard. When I first tried to wake up at 7:30 a.m., I could barely get myself out of bed and then by the next week I was back to sleeping in till 12:00p.m. and then not even getting out of bed till 2:00p.m. Needless to say, I was quite the lazy person when it comes to productivity haha. I decided that I needed to change my ways or I was not going to get anywhere in my life (plus I missed getting ChickFilA breakfast so that was another motivator lol). So, here are my ____ tips on how to become a morning person! Enjoy!

1. WAKE UP GRADUALLY

When I first tried to become a morning person, I thought I would just be able to wake up at 7:30a.m. with no problem at all. Dude, let me tell you it was BRUTAL! I felt like I ran a marathon the day before because of how tired I felt. To try and figure out what I needed to do in order to try and get up early, I went to YouTube (naturally) to see if anyone had videos on this and I found just what I needed. One tip that really stuck with me was putting my alarm time back in 10-minute increments each day until I got to my goal wake-up time. Let’s just say this was a lot easier than trying to go from a 12:00p.m. wake-up time straight to a 7:30 a.m., and once I finally got to my goal time I felt very accomplished (plus I didn’t feel like a zombie which is a plus!).

2. GET A WAKE-UP MOTIVATOR

Having a motivation to wake up early can really help you to make this habit consistent. For me, coffee is my motivation to wake up. I am very serious when it comes to my coffee and when I don’t have it in the morning I am not in the best mood vs. when I do have my daily caffeine intake. However, if you are not a coffee drinker you could always substitute that for another motivator such as tea, food, listening to relaxing music, have reflection time, or Bible time (this is another motivator for me). Find what makes you excited to get up in the morning so that way you don’t feel like you are waking up early for nothing important.

3. CREATE A ROUTINE

Creating a routine for the mornings can be extremely beneficial when you are trying to become a morning person. If you have a specific routine that you do daily, you are more likely to feel accomplished by the small tasks that are in a morning routine. For instance, my daily routine starts with me waking up, going to the bathroom, brushing my teeth, making my bed, heading over to the kitchen to make my cup of coffee, and then I go back to my desk, read my Bible for around 20 minutes, and finally I go and make breakfast. Being able to wake up and look forward to those few tasks really creates a positive atmosphere for me and that much more motivated to do it again the next day.

4. EAT YOUR BREAKFAST

Yes, I know everyone keeps saying to always eat your breakfast but it is so true! Eating breakfast helps your body to wake up and you feel more prepared to take on the day then if you were to rush getting ready and skip breakfast. Some of my favorite breakfasts are tofu scrambles on ciabatta bread with avocado, cereal with fresh fruit and almond milk, blueberry oatmeal, and sometimes a smoothie bowl if I have the time to make it. Now I know some may not have time to make these breakfasts with their busy schedule especially if you have kids, but these kinds of breakfasts you can easily meal prep for the week. The tofu scramble takes no time in itself because the tofu just needs to heat up in the pan. If you want to meal prep the scramble just cook the tofu in a pan, add some spices and veggies and then you are good to go for the week.

5. BE EXCITED TO LIVE

This is going to sound a bit dark, but be excited that you are alive because at any moment that could be taken away from you. Be grateful for the time you spend here on Earth and make the most out of the life you have. One of the main reasons why I wanted to wake up earlier was because I realized I had one life to live and I wanted to make the most of it. I knew I was wasting my days sleeping in till 12:30 or 1:00 in the afternoon and barely having any time to be productive before I got tired yet again. This change was hard at first but I am so grateful for every blissful morning that I get to have and I feel like I am not wasting my days anymore.

So those are my tips! They have helped me get my mornings back and to be able to have more productive days than I have had in a long time! Hopefully, some if not all of the tips will help you be able to gain more time in the morning and in due time I hope that you will grow to love mornings just as much as I have!
